birth date from Jackie Barnes (30 Dec 1779, superceded by data from Amsterdam archives)
Kent Gardien says Levi's death ca 1830, based on NO city directories
At least three possible birth dates are reasonable for Levi Moses Kokernot.
1. Most researchers rely on his civil marriage record (DTB 656/294) of 29 Jan 1808 in which he gives his age as 25 years. Thus his birth date would be between 30 Jan 1782 and 30 Jan 1783. The birth date of his son is variously reported, but generally about 1800. So Levi Moses would have been 18 or so then, so married at age 16 or 17.This seems unusually young. Ages in these marriage records, indeed all civil records are notoriously unreliable. [find example. Maybe Betsy's brother.]
2. Moses Levi Kokernus had three sons listed in the circumcision records. The first was "Judah called Leib" on 30 Dec 1779. This is unambiguously a son of our Moses. His name is Levi and his age is most consistent with a son born in 1800. I think this is the most likely date but, on the other hand, this Levi could be the child who died 4 Oct 1785 with the name "Levi" recycled later.
3. There was a "Leib, son of Mosjee" circumcised 24 Nov 1782. This is not unambiguously a Kokernus, since no surname is given, but this birth date (16 Nov 1782) would agree with marriage document discussed in #1, above.

"We did discover the name Kokernoot several times in the birth and circumcision records of the High German Israelische Congregation there:....
"Moses Levi Kokernoot (= Mosjee Leib Kokernoot)
Children:
1. Jehoeda = Juda called Leib, circumcised 21 Tewet 5540 = Dec 30, 1779, in Amsterdam.
2. Jokef = Jacob, circumcised 19 Tamm. 5542 = July 1, 1782.
3. Koppel = Jacob, circumcised 20 Ijar 5545 = April 30 1785."
From Levi Moses's circumcision on 30 Dec 1779, his eighth day of life, he was born on 23 Dec 1779 (count both birth day and circumcision day.
